Autumn Lupin Books

The Wishing Spell

The Wishing Spell - Chris Colfer, Brandon Dorman I've read better children's stories. The writing feels dry, bland. It definitely feels like something a 12 year old would write.

Originally read: July 17-19 2012

Half the World (Shattered Sea)

Half the World (Shattered Sea) - Joe Abercrombie 4.5 stars. Started off slow, but like the first of the series, had a good, solid ending.

The Slow Regard of Silent Things

The Slow Regard of Silent Things - Patrick Rothfuss I had a craving to read this book again. So I looked on my library's website, and saw they had the audiobook. I had listened to Patrick Rothfuss read a storybook on his livestream one night. And lo and behold, he happened to be the narrator for this audiobook. I'm not particularly sure which event occurred first, but it doesn't really matter. I listened to it, and this man has such a delightful, comforting voice. I don't do audiobooks, and unless he's the narrator, I'm not sure I will ever enjoy one as much as I enjoyed this one. This is officially my favourite novel.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - J.K. Rowling, Jim Kay This edition is actually so beautiful, nearly every page has stunning drawings. If you only had one edition, I would wholeheartedly recommend this one, as it's worth every penny spent.

Brooklyn

Brooklyn - Colm Tóibín 3.5 stars.

While the book was sufficiently emotional to make me cry, I found writing bland, and the ending bland, and honestly the movie was better.

Throne of the Crescent Moon

Throne of the Crescent Moon - Saladin Ahmed My fricking heart man, this book was so good. I mean it was good and then it got great and now I'm emotionally comprised. Really looking forward to the next novel!!

The Last Guardian

The Last Guardian - Eoin Colfer This book is AMAZING. Such an incredible, unbelievable ending to the series. I am blown away.

The Atlantis Complex

The Atlantis Complex - Eoin Colfer This book is different from the others, and a bit weird, but I really really enjoyed this. I think it might be my favourite so far.

Grey

Grey - E.L. James For some reason I enjoyed this better than 50 Shades of Grey. But it's still messed up, Christian Grey has some serious problems.

Rogues

Rogues - There were a few stories in here that felt really awkward as short stories, but overall, the stories were amazing, and it was nice to read snippets of work from authors I want to read, or in some cases, never even heard of!

Artemis Fowl: The Time Paradox

Artemis Fowl: The Time Paradox - Eoin Colfer There were truly a few eye-rolling moments, but aside from that, this book was more than tolerable.

The Lost Colony

The Lost Colony - Eoin Colfer 4.5 stars. It really only loses the half star because part of the ending was predictable, and it was really something I should not have been able to predict.

The Eternity Code

The Eternity Code - Eoin Colfer 4.5 stars. I truly forgot how great some of these characters are. This book is definitely the best of the first three!

Artemis Fowl

Artemis Fowl - Eoin Colfer Originally read February 2006.

This book is just as good as my 13 year old self remembers it being.

Quidditch Through the Ages

Quidditch Through the Ages - J.K. Rowling I mean, it's a history book. She does a decent job of capturing the drier tendencies of such a thing, despite it being about a magical (and of course non existent) sport.

Re-read Aug 30, 2016

Half a King

Half a King - Joe Abercrombie 4.5 stars. There was something really odd about the first half of this book, something I can't quite place, and it's that something that lost this the half star. But this book was so good, especially the last few chapters, and I'm saddened that I don't have the next one readily available.
